No matter how confident you or I feel on a daily basis, there are some situations in life that will make us uneasy. Usually they’re ones that are totally outside our comfort zone, so we don’t do them very often, and when we do they’re a harrowing experience. What can we do to survive these events with our self-confidence intact? I’m so glad you asked! Here are six great tips on how to maintain your self confidence in situations where you’re uber uncomfortable:
YOU are unique and the world needs you! If you ever have trouble believing it some days, I wanted to dedicate this episode totally to YOU and remind you of how incredibly valued and loved you are, and how much you matter. There are probably a billion reasons we could list out, but all of those wouldn’t fit into one episode ;-) Instead, here are the three I thought might have the most impact on you:
No matter how well you and I are doing at life, there are inevitably times when we feel like a disappointment to those around us to ourselves. Sometimes, it can even feel like you don’t matter. This is in NO WAY true. We ALL matter! To demonstrate this, I thought it would be fun to check out some incredible examples of people who faced adversity, obstacles, or setbacks in their life at one point or another and could have easily given up on their passion or dreams—but thank goodness they didn’t because they each greatly impacted the world in one way or another. Let’s check them out:
If you’re serious about your dreams and accomplishing them, then you know you need to constantly be growing and learning. One of the BEST ways to do this is by surrounding yourself with incredible people who embody the life you want to live. If you can get around like-minded people (dreamers!), then you will position yourself for incredible success. We inevitably start to become like the people we hang around, but let’s take a closer look at four of the reasons why this is true:
Even if you’re currently broke (or low on cash), you should be dreaming about your dream vacation! If you don’t quite know what your dream vacation (or home, or family, or life) is, start with putting something general on your vision board. Your goal is to eventually know exactly where you want to go, down to the last detail. Why? Because this is a powerful exercise for your brain that helps you make this dream come true. Let’s look at three reasons why this is so:
Have you wondered how some people are so confident when others of us aren’t? Want to know what the best-kept secret to being confident is? The way to gain confidence is by action—your own! Comparing yourself, where you’re at on your journey, how skilled you are, etc., does nothing to help you. Here are the reasons why:
Before we can answer if work-life balance is possible, we first have to make sure we’re all operating with the same understanding of balance. Balance means that when you or I are doing one thing, we’re missing out on another. That's just how balance works. It’s not this glorious win-win in every category that we like to think it is. So is work-life balance truly possible? Of course it is, but first you have to know these things about it:
Nowadays most of us want things as easy and convenient as possible, but I’m going to make the case that doing such is a disservice for this world and our collective future. Instead of shying away from the things that are difficult or uncomfortable, I encourage us all to embrace challenges! Doing such gives us the opportunities to do all of the things that help us build our emotional intelligence! A high level of emotional intelligence can be found in many of the world’s most successful people and leaders. Like exercising our physical muscles, the more we use our emotional intelligence, the more it grows (i.e. the more challenges we face, the more chances we have to grow!).
Any time I see tips from millionaires or billionaires, I’m all over them. I love reading about their top advice or secrets to success; advice from them is like receiving a gold bar! What better way is there to learn than from someone who has actually completed the journey? With that in mind, I’ve compiled some of my faves for you to check out!
When you’re struggling to stay motivated, you should definitely keep going. However, getting your motivation back ASAP is important, because it does help you produce your best work and do so with great efficiency. When you hit the roadblock that is lack of motivation, don’t let it get you down! Follow these steps and you should be back on track in no time!
Talk to anyone who’s wildly successful or who has accomplished any of their dreams, and somewhere in their story you will find a common element: that they were continuously learning in at least one area of life. On my own quest to find success, I’ve heard this piece of advice over and over again: if you want to succeed in life, always be learning. Now, in my ripe old age of thirty (haha), I finally understand why.
In this episode I’m going to introduce you to five super-fun steps on how you can build your confidence, based on past experiences, compliments, good reviews, and so on. Doing this is so much fun and such a cool thing to have on those days when you’re really feeling down. Let’s get started on building your arsenal!
Really, if everyone knew how hard you were working on your dreams and goals, they would be praising you like crazy! But since that can’t be the case all of the time, and we don’t want to rely on others for validation, it is important that we’re continually building our own self-confidence. Whenever you feel like your hard work isn’t paying off or that nobody in the world is noticing your hard work, keep going anyway! In those times especially, remember that you and I are responsible for our own self-confidence, and these are three reasons why:
Ultimate freedom is why I want to work from anywhere, but I know that can be a pretty daunting dream for some people. The normal process is for us to go to school of some sort, get a job, then settle into that until we “retire” at 65 and then die of boredom. I absolutely do not want to see that happen to you. How to avoid it? Take the road less traveled! Here are some reasons, other than location freedom, why it’s a good idea:
I don’t think you or I would argue that this world would be a much better place if people would just treat each other more kindly and truly appreciate one another. However, you and I both know that that principle can start with us. In fact, it has been proven that people who are kind to others and maintain an attitude of gratitude are happier in life. Not to mention, they can be a beacon of light to those who otherwise might not experience kindness or compassion from a stranger. Wouldn’t you love to have an impact on someone? I know I would!
Your productivity shouldn’t relate to you enthusiasm! Sometimes our enthusiasm wanes when we start to feel like we can’t make our dreams come true; in other words, when our self-confidence slips, so does our enthusiasm. That’s ok, and it’s normal! We all have high and low seasons. However, you don’t have to let it affect your productivity, and here are three reasons why:
As we know from Maslow's hierarchy of needs, each time more of our basic needs are met, we’re able to focus on higher endeavors. The same can be true of our workspace and productivity. I don’t know about you, but the more productive I can be in order to achieve success faster, the better! Here are my five workspace tips for you on how to increase productivity and accelerate your success:
In the pursuit of our dreams and goals, you and I have a tendency to get carried away. It’s not necessarily our fault; we live in a world and culture that says busier is better, even if it comes at the cost of our health, relationships, and joy. I’m here to propose that sometimes in order to speed up, we need to slow down. We cannot always be running at 100%, or else we are going to burn out (which is NEVER a pretty process, #uglycry). How then, do we avoid burnout and do this “slowing down” thing? I’m so glad you asked. ;-)
